Bulgarian school introduces “Chess in schools”
As Die Deutsch Welle reports, a Bulgarian school is the first to introduce the “Chess in schools” program as part of a pilot project supported by the European Chess Union. As we reported earlier, a written declaration on the introduction of chess in the educational system of the European Union has been submitted to the European Parliament.
In Armenia, chess is already compulsory in school (see article in The Guardian).
Garry Kasparov visits European Parliament for “Chess in European Schools” project
“On Tuesday 20 September 2011 Garry Kasparov will present the “Chess in European Schools” project at the European Parliament in Brussels. The project has been jointly developed by the Kasparov Chess Foundation Europe and the European Chess Union. The ECU’s President Silvio Danailov will also speak, while after the presentation and public hearing Garry Kasparov will give a simultaneous exhibition on 14 boards.
The aim of the “Chess in European Schools” project is to introduce chess education into schools in Europe by providing a full course of chess education, providing chess sets and information, and preparing teachers.”
