Gambit Bonnevoie’s women have beaten the reigning European club champions. In a superb Round 4 performance in Budva, they defeated Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo 2.5–1.5—a victory to make the whole club proud.
Monaco came into the event as top seeds and winners of the 2025 title, their eighth European crown. Their four players today averaged 2471 Elo against Gambit’s 2387. Overcoming opposition of that calibre gives this result a special place in Bonnevoie’s European campaign.
Four rounds, four victories: Gambit now stand alone in first place with eight match points, two clear of the chasing pack. Yesterday’s lead on tie-break has become an outright advantage, with 12.5 game points from a possible 16.
Following the convincing win over SuperChess Romania, beating the defending champions is another remarkable step for our women’s team. Three rounds remain, but this is already a day to savour. Ambition, resilience and the joy of achieving something together—the essence of chess, in Gambit Bonnevoie colours.
